Palmdale No Longer Needed
It was back in October that I last emailed about the state of the
used car market, so this email is long overdue... except that not much has changed.
USED CAR SHORTAGE CONTINUES
There is still a shortage of most types of used cars for sale, in fact it is probably
One effect of this at the moment is that many cars sell within a few days, so if you want
to grab that perfect bargain you have to move very quickly indeed... But remember that
it is still better to miss out on a car than it is to buy one without having checked it out
properly (Car Data Check,
vehicle inspection, etc.).
There is a LOT of rubbish out there at the moment, especially in the
over-5-years-old market. Please be very careful about what you buy.
It's simple economics. For a lot of cars there are more buyers than sellers. Values for many
cars are still slowly going up.
All this means that car dealers are much less eager to negotiate, and more and more regularly
I am being told by dealers that there is absolutely no discount available on a car I enquire
about... which is rather strange and unnatural (like my hair)!
This may be bad news for me in my chosen career, but it is good news for all of you. More
and more dealers are not interested in selling cars to other people in the motor trade at hugely
discounted prices, just so that they can make a sale. So, the huge negotiation advantage we had
18 months ago is slowly reducing.
THE DEATH OF PALMDALE?
Hardly! We have just finished the end of our third full financial year and things are going
VERY well indeed. Rest assured, my megalomaniac desire to completely change the way the
world buys cars is every bit as strong!
But my job has most definitely got harder. There are still bargains out there but we have
to search deeper to find them... as should you.
