Vans that will be banned from London
There are over 3 million vans on the UK’s roadstoday (well, not actually today… you know what I mean!). So when new legislation comes in that affects van drivers, it has a huge impact on a lot of people AND their businesses.
CHANGES TO THE LONDON EMISSION ZONE
As of January 3, 2012, any van over 1.205 tonnes(unladen) that wants to travel within the London Low Emission Zone (loosely defined as most of area within the M25) will need to be compliant with the ‘Euro 4’ emission standards… or pay a whopping £100 daily toll!
This includes many British favourites such as the Ford Transit and similar sized vans.
What these ‘standards’ actually are, is fairly unimportant – and boring – but it means that anyone with a large-ish commercial vehicle registered before 1 October 2001 may no longer be able to use it in the London area.
1) Have it upgraded to Euro 4 standards, at a cost of £2,000-£3,000. Sometimes this is more than the vehicle is worth, so for many it is not a sensible option.
2) Change it for a newer ‘compliant’ model.
BUT THESE NEWSLETTERS ARE ABOUT
Absolutely! And many of our readers are van drivers (and plenty of our clients run fleets), so here’s some great advice:
Starting now, as each day passes, non-Euro 4 vans will fall in value and Euro 4 and newer vans will rise in value. The closer we get to the cut-off date, the worse it will get.
So… swap your van NOW! Don’t wait. Don’t delay.
